Biafra: Appeal Court discharges Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism charges

An Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday discharges the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism charges.

The political activist had pleaded to the court to drop all charges of terrorism leveled against him by the Nigerian Government.

Nnamdi Kanu condemned the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court, Abuja, that ordered him to answer seven out of the 15-count terrorism charge against him.

The IPOB leader affirmed that the alleged charges never occurred in Nigeria while praying for the charges to be dropped.

The Justice Hanatu Sankey-led 3-man panel of Justices discharged and acquitted Nnamdi Kanu of all charges.

  The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing $1 million in immediate humanitarian assistance to support the people affected by unprecedented flooding in Nigeria. The unusually heavy rainfall and resulting flooding have affected nearly 2.8 million people across the country.  In addition, many homes have been damaged or completely destroyed, displacing millions of people. The floods have exacerbated an already critical humanitarian situation in Nigeria, where ongoing conflict, especially in the northern region, has driven millions of people from their homes.  In the same region, more than 4 million people are projected to continue experiencing acute food insecurity amid the worsening global food crisis.
